The Darkest Minds: First Impressions

WARNING: The following post contains MINOR spoilers found only the first three chapters and/or the back of the book.  So what happens when you use a magical notebook that can kill people to kill off the entire world's criminals?  WAIT.  WRONG STORY.  So what happens when you use a magical notebook to kill children for a random reason? Ahahah, SHUT UP, BRAIN.  But seriously. When a deadly (You don't say?) plague starts Death Note'ing children and causing them to keel over and die (ergo, Death Note references) for no apparent reason, the entire country goes into a panic.  NATURALLY the best idea is to put the survivors in a slave camp! Right? Right? OH HEY, let's put a kid with Charmspeak and/or Geass in there, too. Because everyone loves the kid that can tell the jerky soldier to off herself and the soldier gladly complies! Right? Wait wat Oh yeah, the survivors apparently turn out with weird abilities. No wonder the government

Allegiant, House of Hades, and Christmas 2k13

Look! I'm existing again! I'm pretty sure I haven't made a post in over a month.  There are questionably legit reasons for that.  But that's totally not what this is about. Instead we'll be covering the topics in the title one at a time? Got it? Good. Didn't get? Good. Moving on.   Allegiant.  I finally got around to reading Allegiant over a month ago.  There's a post I made some time ago that said I completely disregard anyone's opinion, doesn't matter where it comes from, about a book I'm reading or planning to read. The intent of that is to go in with a clean slate. No expectations. Of course, Allegiant being the last book in the series, I already had quite a bit of hype built up for it already. Especially after having to wait a year and a half for it. Based on the previous two books, my brain was saying 'dis gon be gewd!', but everyone else around me (bar Jasmine) was saying 'IT'S CRUD.' No New Books...

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I just haven't had any books to really review...I'm between book releases at the moment. Anyway, I have been rereading the Watersong series by Amanda Hocking. Normally, when I have books that I really like, I read it once and then reread and go through and make a Word document of quotes that I like or are particularly...cute...let's say, because of the ship. This is my second time reading the Watersong series but I didn't feel like starting the Word document, maybe next time. I know, I'm weird. So, the Watersong series (no spoilers). The book jacket info from Good Reads:  " Fall under the spell of Wake—the first book in an achingly beautiful new series by celebrated author Amanda Hocking—and lose yourself to the Watersong. Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attent

So, big day today in fandom news. We have a first clip for the Divergent movie, linked below. http://movies.yahoo.com/video/divergent-exclusive-first-clip-012029180.html?soc_src=copy Quick trailer discussion: Four seems very quick to take off his shirt....um....I would think he would be more shy about showing Tris his tattoos. I love how you can see that moment when Four and Tris realize exactly what's happening. The music in the background is distracting and too loud, I think, for this moment in the movie. Maybe it is just for the trailer (hopefully.) I think this movie is going to be really good! And, we also have the official TFioS movie poster, as confirmed by John Green. Look at that amazing beautiful-ness. (It's just that awesome, I'm making up words now.) Pay special attention to the tagline: "One Sick Love Story" It's cruel, but at the same time, I want to laugh because how true it is. And then I want to almost cry because of how true it is. Ye

BOOK REVIEW: I AM NUMBER FOUR BY PITTACUS LORE

LOL, I just watched the movie trailer and it looks SOOO dumb XD   BUT.   This book was fab. Honestly, I liked it way better than I thought I would. I found myself loving it. Before I get to the parts I didn’t really like, let me start with the positive: This story is original. Yes, there’s a lot of sci-fi about aliens and other planets and space and stuff, but this is awesome. Pittacus Lore came up with an original “other kind,” gave them a planet, gave them all original names with original powers and stuff, and created original bad guys. This story was so action-packed. It had you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath as you turned the page. The first chapter had me absolutely hooked. It started out as a wild roller coaster ride and didn’t stop. Let’s talk characters. Four: I feel that is his proper name, and it is, so I want to call him that instead of John. An amazing character with a heart of gold. This dude is kick-butt, yet has a gentle spirit. I forgo

BOOK REVIEW: CITY OF ASHES BY CASSANDRA CLARE

Image
Alright, here we go. City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare...I really liked this one. I greatly enjoy Clare’s writing style; I appreciate the fact that she writes in such a way that you can IMAGINE and SEE what is happening, especially when it comes to action sequences, which I will be discussing further in my I Am Number Four review post, and possibly a post devoted to explaining my thoughts on action in books. I’m gonna lay it out: 1. Magnus Bane + Alec Lightwood 2. Maia 3. Simon 4. Jocelyn 5. The Inquisitor 6. Valentine 7. Clary 1. Magnus Bane + Alec Magnus, at one point in the book, is described as “a gay Sonic the Hedgehog.” Sorry, but I couldn’t help laughing. But EW. Um...Magnus and Alec...I don’t ship that. Plus, I already don’t support gays, so lol, no. And the fact that Alec denied liking Magnus in front of Jace because he still loves Jace...omygosh stop. 2. Maia I like her. At first she was kinda annoying but she came around. She was sti

Fall of Five.....GAH!

Image
No time for the little intro that tells you that there are spoilers present for the book mentioned in the title. Serious business to get to. Here we go. I shut down my computer about 35 minutes ago so I could focus on finishing Fall of Five. Turns out that most of the end of the book was a sneak peek for one of the Lost Files books. The ending made me just....GAH! So I had to reboot my laptop to make this post. No summary. Just reaction. Sam finally reuniting with his dad: Aww, that's nice. Too bad you left Adam there. Sam and Six on the roof:    Ella's dreams: Creepy. Now stop waking everybody up. Sleep is required to fight a war. Eight and Marina going out to see the city: Something bad is going to happen....nope. John and Sarah going to the zoo: Something bad is going to happen....well, sort of. I ship it, but it's still going a little too well.... Sam and Six in the garage: Nine teasing Five (also getting Eight killed): Shut up! Stop talk

Book Review: World After

Image
So, I have finished reading World After. It took me more time than it would have normally because finals week made me very tired. Good news though, I am officially on winter break as of yesterday! My rating: 8 / 10 This is a book review, so if you haven't read or still plan to read World After, you should probably stop reading now. World After. Where to begin...hmm... Well, I will admit that I didn't remember much of what happened in Angelfall, besides the fact that Penryn was able to use Raffe's sword, Paige is some freaky experiment thing, and Raffe has demon wings as part of a plot for Uriel to become the Messenger. I had to go through the Angelfall posts to refresh my memory because I wasn't able to find a place that summarized the book. This is why I reread my books, guys. In hindsight, I should have reread Angelfall before I read World After but I was so excited to read my new books that I just didn't. The recount below probably has
