BOOK REVIEW: SOMEONE LIKE YOU BY SARAH DESSEN

This was my first Sarah Dessen book and I thought that it was just okay.
Halley is quite annoying. She is the typical sixteen year old: wants to break away from her mom, rebels, thinks her parents are annoying and embarrassing, blah blah blah.
Scarlett is somewhat okay. I found it brave of her to make the decision to keep the baby, but she then almost backed out when she went into labor. She really only cared about having to suffer the physical pain and she whined throughout her whole pregnancy. Her pregnancy was also extremely unrealistic (I've never been pregnant, but even I know how unrealistic it was). She was whiny, clingy, and just straight-up weird.
Macon. His name annoys the heck out of me, and he is a stupid character. How is he even relevant? I still don't understand how he comes into the story. He just appears in Scarlett's bed. I thought she and him had hooked up, but it turns out he was just in her bed because he was mourning Michael and Scarlett let him stay in her room while she slept on the couch. And her mom didn't even notice that he was there.
And Macon is your typical, shallow moron. He seems all sweet and mysterious at first, but then comes out as a bad boy who just wants to get close to Halley so she will sleep with him. He does drugs, smokes, and has done this fling-flirt act with several other girls. And what annoys me the most is that despite Halley's mom's warnings and Halley's suspicions of him having hooked up with several other girls AND him being with other girls WHILE he's with her, she still wants to be in a relationship with him.
Halley is a fool. She thinks she's SO smart in the boy department and SO independent and SO rebellious. She doesn't even know what she'd do if she didn't have Scarlett as a friend. And she gets all butt-hurt when she finds out Scarlett slept with Michael and didn't tell her, yet she's supportive of her having his baby. AND THEN, Halley finds it okay to snap at Scarlett that she shouldn't have slept with Michael because Scarlett doesn't want her to sleep with Macon. Hypocritical, much?
And the most annoying thing: why does Halley keep letting Macon touch her and get super close to having sex with her and then backing off at the last minute over 5 times? MAKE UP YOUR MIND. She keeps almost having sex with him, and then feels that she shouldn't let him at the last minute because he hasn't told her he loves her and because he's probably done this with other girls. He just wants to sleep with them. DUH.
And then when she decides to sleep with him, she again runs away at the last minute and then they get in a car accident and she almost dies and he finally tells her he loves her.
AND THEN HE LEAVES HER.
THEN he tries to win her back!!!
AFTER HE NEARLY KILLED HER.
What the heck.
FINALLY Halley comes to her senses: Oh, he doesn't love me. I know now because despite the fact he only gets into relationships with girls to sleep with them, he left me after the car accident and didn't come to the hospital to see me.
Macon stalks her and tries to touch her/apologize near the very end of the book and she shoots him down. WELL FINALLY.
I just loathe Macon. I hate his name, he has no personality, his character makes no sense, you learn next to nothing about him, and he's an idiot who sleeps around and has no respect for girls. No thanks.
And, of course, Scarlett has her baby in the last 10 pages of the book. She names the baby after Halley (middle name) and everyone's happy. Halley ends with saying she's content blah blah blah...Macon is gone. All problems solved. Michael's dead, baby is born, Scarlett's fine.
Okay, so, let's focus on reality. How is Scarlett going to care for this baby? What about her education? What about Macon? What about Cameron? How is Cameron even relevant? Honestly, he suddenly appears in the book and basically becomes a servant to Scarlett while she's pregnant. He's sweet and stuff and then acts all weird when Scarlett goes into labor. Scarlett and him never even become boyfriend and girlfriend. Why does he even exist in the story?
I honestly predicted how this book would go. The car accident with Macon and Halley surprised me, but it was still so cliché. Michael dies by getting hit by a car on his motorcycle. Scarlett is suddenly pregnant after having slept with him one time (and they used protection). Scarlett goes to get an abortion and then changes her mind because she only wants to keep the baby so she has some piece of her dead boyfriend who she had been dating for about 2 months. <--- Gross and creepy.
So, to conclude:
Halley is annoying and stupid.
Scarlett is whiny, keeps her baby for selfish reasons, got pregnant after sleeping with Michael once, was with Michael for only 2 months, and Michael dies.
Macon is an idiot who we find out is nothing but trouble and should not even exist in this book because he's irrelevant and nothing but annoying.
Cameron totally should not exist in this story because he has 0 relevance.
This book made no sense.
This story was typical, cliché, boring, and had no reality to it.
The sex, drugs, cussing, and sensuality turned me off big time. I plan on re-selling this book and I just got it today.
